About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer to join our Engineering team in a Combined Cycle Power Plant environment. The role focuses on maximizing plant efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence through the development, implementation, and optimization of advanced control strategies and real time optimization. This position plays a critical role in driving heat rate improvement, emission reduction, and process stability.

Key Responsibilities Advanced Control Strategy Development
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain Advanced Process Control (APC) applications (MPC, multivariable control)
  • Build dynamic process models for Gas turbines, Steam turbines, HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator), Balance of Plant (BoP)
  • Identify key process constraints and optimize control strategies accordingly
Plant Optimization & Efficiency Improvement
  • Drive heat rate reduction and fuel optimization initiatives
  • Improve plant load response, ramp rates, and operational flexibility
  • Minimize process variability and stabilize critical parameters
  • Optimize combustion process to enhance efficiency and reduce losses
Monitoring, Analysis & Tuning
  • Continuously monitor APC performance and identify improvement opportunities
  • Perform controller tuning (PID + APC layers)
  • Detect and resolve oscillations, model mismatches, and poor control performance
Systems Integration & Control Architecture
  • Integrate APC solutions with plant DCS (e.g., Siemens PCS7, Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VIe, Honeywell)
  • Ensure seamless communication between control layers
  • Maintain reliability and availability of APC applications
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead investigations into process instability, load fluctuations, and efficiency losses
  • Conduct structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement
  • Utilize plant historians (e.g., OSIsoft PI, AVEVA) for advanced data analysis
  • Develop performance dashboards and KPIs
  • Identify opportunities for digital optimization and AI-based enhancements
Compliance & Environmental Performance
  • Ensure plant operates within environmental and regulatory emission limits
  • Optimize systems to minimize NOx, CO , and CO emissions
Operator Support & Training
  • Provide training to operations teams on APC strategies and best practices
  • Support operators during abnormal or transient conditions
Project & Improvement Initiatives
  • Participate in control system upgrades and APC expansion projects
  • Support commissioning activities for new or modified systems
  • Contribute to digital transformation and smart plant initiatives
Qualifications & Requirements Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control Engineering
Experience
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in process control/ APC within Combined Cycle Power Plants, Thermal or large utility scale power plants
  • Proven experience implementing MPC or multivariable control applications
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of process control (PID, APC, MPC)
  • Thermodynamics and power plant processes
  • Hands on experience with DCS systems (Siemens, GE, Emerson, Honeywell) and APC platforms (Aspen Tech, Yokogawa, Honeywell RTO)
  • Data historians (OSIsoft PI / AVEVA)
Additional Skills
  • Experience with MATLAB / Python for modeling and analysis
  • Real Time Optimization (RTO) systems
  • AI/ML applications in process optimization
