Database Administrator

To provide technical expertise in the designing, implementation and maintenance of E&P corporate database that supports EDD business applications while proposing and executing database management policies & procedures and supporting database storage, security, preservation and utilization activities as per set standards.

Complies with division’s policies, processes & procedures and ensure all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled.

Executes the day-to-day operations assigned for database administration and storage activities to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures.

Reviews, develops, and designs data models using specialised database management techniques, in conjunction with contractors and Data Management Section; creates logical data models and translates into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures inline with set standards.

Monitors databases to optimize performance, resource utilization and physical implementation of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between distinct databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues and new applications.

Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance to ensure uninterrupted database availability,

Instructs and helps users follow established standard database managing procedures. Provides technical assistance, troubleshooting, user training and guidelines required by the department users.

Executes scheduled periodic Hot & Cold database backups; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required.

Conducts quality checks on backups and rectifies any inconsistency in data backup operations.

Provides data security support ensuring any data access is based on appropriate authority of the end user thus ensuring the reliability & integrity of data.

Coordinates and provides technical support during the execution of any contracts related to Database Administration to ensure that both contracting parties fulfil their obligations;
Reports any variances to the Supervisor.

Researches new and improved methods of data administration, storage & retrieval and recommends implementation of new technology to increase departmental efficiencies.

Prepares reports on data administration activities and achievements on a regular basis in a timely and accurate manner to meet departmental requirements, policies and standards.

Complies with all relevant safety, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment

Performs other related duties or assignments as directed.
