Raytheon has an exciting IT position available that supports the Raytheon mission of making the world a safer place. We are currently seeking a Principal Linux Systems Administrator, based in Huntsville, AL, who will be working onsite in a highly collaborative, multi-platform and multi‑disciplined environment. The Systems Administrator is required to have an active secret security clearance as they will be responsible for deploying and maintaining classified IT infrastructures.

The candidate’s day‑to‑day activities include but are not limited to:
Red Hat Linux server management; storage management; file server management; access management; data backup; software and license configuration; and workstation support. Each day in the life of a Systems Administrator can bring something new – building a new IT infrastructure for a group of engineers, strategizing disaster recovery, updating virus definitions and security patches, teaming with our brilliant engineers on how to improve their processes, and more.

Eligibility
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Active Secret DoD security clearance required on day 1.
  • Must obtain DoD Directive 8140 / 8570 certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) within 6 months of start date.
Responsibilities
  • Provide IT systems administration in a heterogeneous Redhat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Experience with Linux fundamentals and Windows Server internals including Ansible, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, AD, and server replication methods.
  • Work as a team member in a fast‑paced technological environment. Use troubleshooting techniques to resolve technical problems of a moderate to high scope and complexity, including integration of hardware and operating systems (OS).
  • Experience with data RAID, data backup use, and technologies. Install and configure software applications requested by end users.
  • Work with cybersecurity professionals to maintain security requirements and provide documentation and training on advanced IT processes and procedures and other tasks as assigned.
  • Develop solutions and documentation to solve a variety of technical problems.
  • Systems are operational 24x7 and occasionally require work effort beyond standard work hours.
  • Travel to other U.S. domestic locations as business needs dictate up to 10% travel.
  • Full‑time 100% onsite position.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Must have Linux experience.
  • Experience in one of the following:
    Active Directory, VMware, system hardening, disaster recovery.
Qualifications We Value
  • Experience with NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS and/or DoD/RMF.
  • Familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Experience with Enterprise Active Directory (AD) & LDAP.
  • Experience with security posturing using tools such as SCAP, Nessus, Splunk, Symantec and other AV solutions, and system hardening.
  • Experience supporting engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.
  • Able to real‑time troubleshoot and develop solutions with documentation to a variety of technical problems.

Benefits & Compensation

Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
