Summary
The Patient Services Assistant (PSA) provides high-level administrative and patient support to ensure the efficient daily operations of the Cardiology Department. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients, central scheduling, referring providers, and clinical staff. Key responsibilities include managing patient scheduling, coordinating diagnostic testing and supporting staff with administrative tasks. Strong communication skills, to detail, and the ability to work in a patient-centered environment are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities- (45%)* Maintain the waiting area: check in patients, answer patient questions, answer phone calls, ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for all patients and visitors.
- (45%)* Manage department schedules: review orders, obtain orders, verify insurance authorization has been obtained, maximize schedule utilization, patient reminder calls, review patient prep for testing, etc.
- (5%)* Order and maintain department supplies.
- (5%)* Perform multiple roles within the department, adapting to varying responsibilities as operational needs arise.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills, ensuring clear, professional interactions with patients, families, and staff.
- Possess basic computer and office equipment skills, including proficiency with standard software applications and routine administrative tools.
- Demonstrate a high level of accountability by maintaining reliable attendance, reporting to work when scheduled with minimal unscheduled absences, taking ownership of their work, and consistently following through on tasks.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, colleagues, and providers to support a collaborative and effective care environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Have the capability to work independently, demonstrating strong initiative and sound judgment with minimal supervision.

Credential: BLS:
Basic Life Support
Equivalent
Experience:
Required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Allied Health courses preferred
Medical Terminology:
The Basics Connect Course (or equivalent) within 30 days or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of the personal computer and office equipment is preferred.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
- Can move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
- Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
- Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular, and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
- Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
- Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
