Summary

This position provides for the transportation of materials, including lab specimens, waste, supplies, mail, x-ray films, pharmaceuticals, and medical records/reports throughout the Health System and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • (60%) Transports the following throughout My Michigan Health affiliates and surrounding areas: supplies, x-rays, lab specimens/bio hazardous material, medical records, reports, mail, blood, waste, and laundry. This includes regular schedules and unscheduled stat runs.
  • (20%) Performs basic maintenance checks on all transportation vehicles, schedules repairs, maintains log of repairs and maintenance of vehicles.
  • (20%) Continually assists with route schedule changes to gain efficiencies within the transportation system.
  • Provides Excellent Customer Service.
  • Full-time courier positions may require on-call coverage participation as scheduled.
  • Must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. May need to participate in further learning opportunities offered by My Michigan Health.

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Driving record that allows for driver insurability by My Michigan Health Insurance provider.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem solve/ prioritize.
  • General knowledge of vehicle maintenance issues.
  • Mandatory OSHA training annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Background fingerprinting check per Michigan Public Acts 26-29.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.
  • Ability to wear PPE that includes latex or appropriate substitute.
  • Mobility to move freely about facility with or without assisted device; must perform job functions as outlined.
  • Vision and hearing necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Exposure to blood borne pathogens; must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay awake.
  • Dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, etc.; may require repetitive movements.
  • Physical Demand Level: Light. Must occasionally lift 11-20 lbs. frequently 10 lbs; walk/stand/push/pull of arm/leg controls.
