Position: Academic and Cultural Advisor for Native Students
Location: Sault Ste. Marie

Promote educational equity and cultural identity for Native American students as an Academic and Cultural Advisor. Engage families and community while supporting student growth and graduation.

The Sault Ste. Marie Area Public School Board is looking for a dedicated Native American Advisor to facilitate academic support and improve attendance among students. The role emphasizes the importance of cultural advocacy, academic mentoring, and emotional well-being. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a background in working with Native American families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure access to academic, emotional, and cultural resources

• Monitor and improve student attendance rates

• Develop individual student support plans

• Advocate for culturally relevant curriculum

• Facilitate community and family engagement initiatives

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree required

• Prior experience with Native American youth preferred

• Understanding of cultural identity and community dynamics

• Ability to work autonomously within guidelines

• Tribal affiliation or community connection preferred
