Responsibilities
Direct and supervise mine closure long term care and maintenance team including a staff of 6 environmental, operations and maintenance specialists as well as various contractors at the Legacy Assets sites in Elliot Lake.
Facilitate the planning, monitoring, maintenance and improvement of site operations including but not limited to: water treatment plants, pump stations, infrastructure, surface and groundwater monitoring programs, tailings storage facilities, OMS document management, compliance reporting etc.
Support team coordination, reporting, planning and risk management activities.
Contribute to the preparation of budgets as well as ensuring costs are managed appropriately.
Compliance with all local legislation and regulations, BHP Group Level Documents and Legacy Asset procedures including safety, health, environment and community.
Contribute to the field leadership and risk management processes for the Canada team through engagement with site staff, technical expertise and functional support.
Engage with multiple stakeholders including local community groups in the planning and execution of activities.
Ensure that employees, contractors and sub-contractors follow and have actions that support compliance with HSEC principals and the Legacy Assets HSE framework. Ensure that all work is executed safely and according to design with the goal of zero harm to personnel and environment.
Qualifications
A minimum of ten years’ experience in mining, environmental, projects or mine closure care and maintenance activities.
In depth understanding of water treatment and closed site management practices.
Experience using SCADA remote monitoring systems.
Understanding of mine tailings operation, maintenance and surveillance practices.
Operating field experience including safety and supervision of small to medium size projects.
Solid interpersonal skills including an ability to interact and communicate professionally and respectfully with site staff, functional support teams, community stakeholders and regulatory agency representatives.
A safety-first mind-set.
The ability to manage competing priorities.
Competent use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word, and ability to learn internal BHP programs/systems (ex: BOS (BHP Operating System), SAP (Fiori), Envirosys, EQuIS, Kai Nexis).
Embrace positive change and improvements – Continuous Improvement experience is an asset.
Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, considering long‑term impacts to process changes.
