About the Role:
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst supports the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) by maintaining, analyzing, and visualizing geographic data that informs programs, policy, consultation activities, and community initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Lands, Resources and Consultation, this position provides technical GIS expertise through the development of high-quality mapping products, spatial analysis, geospatial data management, and cartographic support. The GIS Analyst works collaboratively across multiple MNO Branches to ensure spatial information is accurate, accessible, and aligned with MNO cartographic and data governance standards.
This role reports to the Supervisor, Geographic Information Systems. Operationally accountable to Subject Specialist Leads;
Directors for Rights Research & Policy;
Lands, Resources & Consultations.
What you will be doing:
- Use ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to manage, analyze, maintain, and publish geospatial data and mapping products.
- Support in developing maps and spatial products to support the RRP; LRC branches, and other MNO programs and initiatives.
- Maintain structured, well-documented geospatial file storage systems to ensure long-term accessibility, version control, and data security.
- Support in updating, maintaining, and integrating geographic datasets from internal and external sources.
- Perform spatial analysis, geoprocessing, data extraction, and data manipulation to support operational, planning, and policy needs.
- Convert physical maps and non-georeferenced digital information into accurate GIS datasets and map layers.
- Implement and maintain best practices for geodatabase design, metadata, naming conventions, quality assurance, and data integrity.
- Review and validate datasets for accuracy, coordinate systems, completeness, and compliance with MNO cartographic and publishing standards.
- Provide cartographic, analytical, and technical GIS support to MNO Branches and project teams.
