The North Shore Health Network (NSHN) is a publicly funded, multi-site healthcare organization providing integrated health services to rural and remote communities across Northern Ontario. Operating three sites along the Highway 17 corridor in Blind River, Thessalon and Richards Landing-Matthews, NSHN serves a geographically dispersed catchment population of approximately 15,000 people across more than 11 communities, including Serpent River First Nation, Mississauga First Nation and Thessalon First Nation.
NSHN delivers a comprehensive range of services across the continuum of care, including emergency and inpatient hospital services, long‑term care, ambulatory and outpatient clinics, and community-based programs. Through a coordinated organizational structure, NSHN promotes seamless transitions between acute care, long‑term care, and community services, supporting continuity of care and improved patient outcomes. The organization employs approximately 300 people across its three sites, with the majority of employees based in Blind River.
NSHN is committed to working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and healthcare partners to advance accessible, culturally safe, equitable and person‑centred care throughout the region. The organization is also undertaking an organization‑wide review of its infrastructure needs, including planning related to the future configuration of emergency and acute care services in Central Algoma. This work has the potential to shape NSHN’s future service model and capital priorities and will require extensive engagement with communities, Indigenous partners, healthcare providers, municipalities and government.
This is an opportunity to lead North Shore Health Network at a pivotal moment and help establish a strong, stable and sustainable foundation for the future of rural healthcare across Northeast Algoma. Following a period of organizational disruption and significant system pressures, the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be expected to bring consistent leadership, disciplined execution and a clear focus on organizational performance, while advancing NSHN’s priorities in financial sustainability, workforce stability and quality care.
The CEO will also have an important opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery across the region through the infrastructure review and planning for the future configuration of emergency and acute care services in Central Algoma. Success will require bringing together communities and diverse stakeholders around a common direction, while building strong relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers, staff, Indigenous and community partners, municipalities, local healthcare organizations and service providers, government and the broader health system.
For a leader motivated by impact, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the sustainability of rural healthcare and to the communities NSHN serves.
The ideal candidate will be a credible and accomplished healthcare leader with experience leading complex organizations through periods of change, stabilization and transformation. They will bring strong operational and financial stewardship, a demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, and the discipline to establish accountability, build leadership capacity and deliver against organizational commitments. Importantly, they will have a genuine understanding of and affinity for rural communities and rural healthcare – ideally through having lived, worked or developed meaningful ties in a rural setting – and will appreciate the distinct opportunities and challenges of delivering care…
