Description
Highmark Companies is adding an experienced Human Resources Manager to our team. The HR Manager will focus on aligning HR functions with business objectives, ensuring compliance, fostering employee engagement, and optimizing HR processes to support organizational success. This role will manage three HR Specialists responsible for Payroll & Benefits, Training & Development, and Talent Acquisition.
Pay: $80K - $100K
Location: Onsite in Savage, MN
Responsibilities- Directly oversee HR Team ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Manage and maintain HR policies, procedures, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce organizational risk across HR, safety, and compliance functions.
- Partner with legal, finance, and operations leaders to proactively identify potential liabilities and ensure mitigation plans are in place.
- Oversee annual company insurance policy renewals, including workers’ compensation, liability, auto, cyber, and property coverage.
- Coordinate with insurance brokers to review coverage needs, assess claims history, and secure competitive rates.
- Manage insurance claims processes, ensuring timely reporting, documentation accuracy, and proper follow-through with adjusters.
- Maintain risk-related records, audits, and compliance documentation to support policy renewals and minimize exposure.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
- Serve as a key advisor for employee concerns and workplace improvements.
- Track and analyze key HR metrics such as turnover, hiring trends, and engagement.
- Identify opportunities for HR process improvements and automation.
- Implement and optimize HR technology and systems.
- Lead investigations, address employee concerns, and oversee disciplinary and performance processes with consistency and care.
- Supports payroll, benefits, and HRIS administration to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
- Supports recruitment, onboarding, and training programs that set new employee-owners up for success.
- Supports implementation of training programs, leadership development, and skills training.

- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of employment laws, HR compliance, talent management, and training.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with business leaders and provide strategic HR guidance.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems and other training technologies.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess training needs and develop effective training programs.
- Strong knowledge of payroll and benefits administration.
- Familiarity with payroll software and benefits management systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Paychex, Workday).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll and benefits laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle recruiting processes and best practices.
