About You:You’re someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and making sense of financial data. Staying organized, meeting deadlines, and paying close attention to detail come naturally to you. You’re comfortable working independently but also value collaboration, especially when supporting other departments or helping to improve financial processes.
We are hiring for an Accountant, but we’re also open to under filling the position as an Accounting Specialist for candidates who bring strong accounting or bookkeeping experience and are ready to grow into the role.

- 2–3 years of hands‑on accounting experience, ideally with a municipality or public agency.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
- A valid Arizona driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and the ability to be bondable/notary eligible.
- A high school diploma or GED (college coursework in accounting is a plus).
- 3–5 years of experience in accounting, A/P, A/R, or bookkeeping.
- The ability to learn new systems, meet deadlines, and produce accurate, detailed work.
- A valid Arizona driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and ability to be bondable/notary eligible.
Handle the core day‑to‑day accounting work by preparing and entering routine and non‑routine journal entries, reconciling general ledger and bank accounts, reviewing and processing general billing items, and maintaining vendor records.
Month-End, Year-End & Compliance Activities (20%):Support the City’s regular financial cycles by participating in month‑end and year‑end processes, preparing reports and auditing transactions and processes, assisting with capital asset activities, entering budget transfers, helping with budget worksheets, and researching and analyzing data to recommend improvements to processes or systems.
Administrative, Customer Service & Project Support (15%):Provide support to the Finance Department by entering and maintaining contracts, assisting with records management and updates to the Finance webpage, helping with special projects, covering for other staff during absences, and delivering excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Improvement District & Financial Reporting Support (5%):Monitor and prepare billings for improvement district assessments, process payments, prepare payoff quotes, reconcile subsidiary ledgers, enter new assessment districts, and participate in the annual delinquency sale. You will also help prepare financial reports, work papers, and documentation for auditors.
