Job SummaryThe Accounting Clerk will assist in ensuring that the company receives payment for goods and services offered to clients. In addition, the ideal candidate will perform complex clerical bookkeeping and accounting assignments, assist with processing weekly payroll, prepare accounting statements and generate financial reports.
Responsibilities- Clerical Bookkeeping Duties:
Prepare financial reports and various accounting statements; post journal entries to general ledger; generate summary sheets for supervisor or auditor; process payroll and prepare necessary payroll reports; proof accounting reports for clerical accuracy; allocate expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental procedures; perform other related duties as assigned. - Accounts Receivable Duties:
Prepare, post, verify, and record customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable; create invoices and submit to customers; maintain and update customer files; draft correspondence for past-due accounts and collections; create reports on current status of customer accounts; research discrepancies with assistance of Collections Manager and staff; assist in generating monthly billing statements; copy, file, and retrieve accounts receivable materials. - Accounts Payable Duties:
Receive and verify expense reports; reconcile expenses with account balances; facilitate payment of vendors; ensure outstanding obligations are credited upon payment; identify discount opportunities; assist with reconciling monthly statements and transactions; record petty cash; calculate and report sales tax. - Payroll Duties:
Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions; reconcile payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements; issue or reissue checks or direct deposits as needed; process federal and state payroll tax deposits; perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
- Operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier.
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of spreadsheets and accounting software; ability to learn other accounting software systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Quick Books.
- Reliable and trustworthy; ability to learn payroll software quickly.
- Thorough understanding of bookkeeping practices and procedures, with ability to train others.
- High school diploma required;
Business or Accounting degree preferred. - Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six months of payroll experience preferred.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
CompensationCommensurate with experience.
