Legal Secretary II

The Chatham County Child Advocate Office has an opening for Legal Secretary II. If you meet the minimum qualifications, we welcome your application.

Under general direction, you

• Perform administrative and legal secretarial support functions for assigned counsel.
• Prepare, proofread, and edit sensitive documents, including subpoenas, motions, continuances, and other related legal documents, for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures and standards.
• Perform general office duties including filing, answering phone calls, and greeting visitors.
• Perform work that requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality often in stressful situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED, and
• At least two (2) years of experience performing various legal administrative assistance, legal secretarial, or related duties; or
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
• Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute. Keyboarding and clerical testing will be conducted during the interview process for selected candidates.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Legal and/or court experience.
• Post-secondary education in a legal field.
