POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic Success Coordinator for the School of Pharmacy serves as the primary point of intervention for at-risk students in the program. In collaboration with the SUSOP Persistence Committee, the Academic Success Coordinator will assess at-risk students as well as design and implement academic performance and/or remediation plans to positively impact student retention in the program. Additional responsibilities include the development and implementation of longitudinal professional competency programs in the curriculum with the assistance of the School’s Curriculum Committee.

KEY

JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Serve as primary academic advisor and mentor for pharmacy students displaying poor academic performance at any point in the curriculum.
  • Design, coordinate and operationalize a Persistence/Competency assessment program that functions throughout the entire didactic curriculum.
  • Serve as coordinator and/or instructor for courses in the School of Pharmacy as assigned, with reduced teaching expectations due to the focus of the position.
  • Serve as liaison to Curriculum Committee for all aspects of fundamental pharmacy instruction.
  • Provide regular hands-on participation, assessment and feedback to faculty coordinators within relevant courses throughout the curriculum.
  • Design, coordinate and deliver ongoing student support programs such as “Special Topics” seminars within areas consistent need or other topics relating to fundamental/foundational curricular coursework.
  • Participate in other classroom and application/assessment activities as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ph.D. in Educational Psychology or Instructional Design from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
  • Individuals with Pharm.

    D. or Pharmacy related degrees with experience in student retention and persistence are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
  • Ability to interpret student needs and determine when referral to other University resources is appropriate.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a diverse student population.
  • Proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement School and University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and implement operational procedures.
  • Ability to develop and implement student academic or professional performance plans and/or remediation plans.
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and external stakeholders or groups.
  • Skill in applying the principles, techniques and methods of teamwork, compromise and collaboration to produce desired outcomes.
  • Skill in use of internet-based research tools and applications.
  • ABILITY TO TRAVEL:

    The individual must be able to travel out of the local area occasionally on an overnight basis as required to complete required job functions or to participate in a variety of conferences and meetings.
