Req#: 3865560 Join a team of GIS professionals as a GIS Analyst within the Stormwater Management Division. This position performs comprehensive geographic information systems services for internal stormwater management requests, outside-agency partners, and public-facing interfaces. GIS Analysts work within a connected enterprise-level GIS system that provides a platform for high-level analysis of historical and current data, integrated data collection and reporting, and mapping of georeferenced data through static maps or dynamic web-based interfaces.

Candidates are expected to complete assigned work, either independently or collaboratively with varied timelines. Complexities of work vary from simple daily/weekly assignments to complex, long-term project management. Projects support community and city-wide initiatives in infrastructure and development of stormwater management, as well as, but are not limited to projects that focus on equity, public health, urban planning, public safety, and emergency services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operates within the City of Savannah computer internal network and enterprise-level servers, portal, and AGOL to maintain the city's geographic information system.
  • Use and integration of ESRI suite of products:
    • Desktop:
      ArcGIS Pro, Arc Catalog, Survey
      123 Connect
    • Online:
      Enterprise/Portal, ArcGIS Online, Web App Builder, Hub, Experience Builder, etc.
    • Apps:
      Fieldmaps, Survey
      123, Quick Capture
  • AutoCAD (.dwg files) integration into ArcGIS Pro.
  • Manages Spatially Referenced Data:
    • Maintains (edits/updates) various stormwater management GIS layers.
    • Gathers, compiles, converts, and inputs data from disparate sources.
    • Develops and maintains relational databases of spatial information.
    • Designs and develops GIS integrated systems for data collection/acquisition and storage in SDE databases.
    • Georeferences historic maps, engineering and infrastructure plans.
    • Interprets maps and documents used to maintain GIS data.
    • Provides quality control review of data for city-wide consumers.
  • Performs advanced analysis and provides summary statistics for inclusion in reports, research, and proposals.
    • Spatial, statistical and system analyses of GIS data are used to support initiatives for City of Savannah/Chatham County and the surrounding areas.
    • Analyses are used for policy decisions, presented at City Council, referenced in grants, and used in annual reports for City/Regional/State/and Federal reports.
    • Analyses support comprehensive stormwater management for short-term and long-term coastal/urban planning.
  • Creates static and dynamic maps of geographically referenced data:
    • Creates professional and publishable quality maps.
    • Updates and recreates maps with current information.
    • Creates new maps for web-based interfaces or apps used for internal city purposes or public-facing data-sharing.
  • Reviews private development and capital improvement Close-Out as-built submissions for compliance with city stormwater management design standards.
  • Ensures that .dwg file submittals meet GIS standards.
  • Brings layers from AutoCAD file into ArcGIS Pro for archiving.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Geography, or Information Systems; with two years (2) of GIS software experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Additional Requirements

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

  • Knowledge of geography, geographic data management systems, geology, landscape architecture, drafting and design, and surveying.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and other modern office equipment.
  • Skill in the creation and interpretation of maps and types of geographic data reports.
  • Skill in developing short- and long-range plans.
  • Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and other modern office equipment.
  • Skill in training personnel.
