. The purpose of this position is to inspect and maintain cathodic protection systems and equipment used for corrosion control to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
The role involves applying chemistry, electricity, physics, metallurgy, and other sciences to mitigate or control corrosion damage through cathodic protection. Responsibilities include inspecting, troubleshooting, designing, documenting, and supporting corrosion control activities across the organization.
Responsibilities- Perform compliance surveys and inspections (annual test points, isolated services, casings, bonds, foreign crossings) in accordance with codes, standards, and procedures.
- Conduct timely cathic protection troubleshooting and remediation work orders (install anodes, clear short circuits, install insulators, repair/replace test stations).
- Execute AC monitoring and mitigation activities.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Provide guidance to Corrosion Apprentice/Level I/II Technicians.
- Design advanced cathodic protection systems and maintain corrosion control mapping systems (GIS).
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of rectifiers and calibrate half‑cells.
- Conduct atmospheric inspections of exposed pipe spans and monitor corrosion control records.
- Perform and analyze indirect surveys (CIS, DCVG, ACVG, ACCA, etc.) and generate reports.
- Oversee corrosion contractors and evaluate lower‑level technicians.
- Support engineering and construction projects with corrosion control needs.
- Enter new facilities and compliance data into systems promptly.
- Participate in regulatory audits and maintain a safe work environment.
- Associate degree from a technical/trade school with math, electrical, or science‑based curriculum; or
- High school diploma with an equivalent combination of education and experience, evaluated by the Corrosion Control Management Team.
- NACE CP2 Certification (Cathodic Protection Technician).
- NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification or company‑designated equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
Certifications:
- NACE CP3 (Cathodic Protection Technologist).
- NACE Sr. Corrosion Technologist Certification.
- NACE CIP 1 or NACE PCS 1.
Work Experience:
- 6 years pipeline cathodic protection / corrosion control experience.
Work Experience:
- 10 years pipeline cathodic protection / corrosion control experience.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills (intermediate).
- Ability to read and understand codes, standards, and procedures.
- Basic electrical principles and Ohm’s Law knowledge (intermediate).
- Mathematical aptitude: algebra and geometry (intermediate).
- Problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Data analysis proficiency.
- Experience with Pipeline Compliance System (PCS).
- Field Data Logger proficiency (Allegro, MESA 3 Tablet, etc.).
- Geographic Information System (GIS) proficiency.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent local travel with occasional 5–20% overnight travel.
- Prolonged standing or walking, reaching above shoulder level, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work in office and field environments, near moving mechanical parts.
- Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, weather conditions, and excessive noise.
