Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineer
Savannah, Georgia
You are a mass properties engineer who enjoys turning complex aircraft data into reliable engineering decisions. You are at your best when analytical models, measured data, configuration details, and sound judgment all have to come together.
Experienced OpportunityThis position requires relevant professional experience.
To be considered, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you meet the minimum qualifications listed below.
Mass properties engineering supports the development and production of Gulfstream aircraft by helping teams understand and manage weight, balance, inertia, mass distribution, and configuration impacts. In this role, your analysis will help engineering teams solve difficult technical problems, evaluate design choices, and maintain accurate aircraft mass properties information. You will contribute specialized expertise while working across disciplines to support the quality and effectiveness of Gulfstream products.
What You Will Do- Perform mass properties analysis, including weight estimation, center-of-gravity calculations, moments of inertia, mass distribution, weight tracking, and configuration-based reporting.
- Develop and apply analytical approaches to solve difficult engineering problems within schedule and cost objectives.
- Support important engineering projects through planning, analysis, coordination, and technical problem solving.
- Provide specialized mass properties guidance to engineering team members and collaborate with groups outside your immediate area.
- Use engineering models, drawings, bills of material, measured data, and configuration information to improve the accuracy of mass properties analysis.
- Look for practical ways to improve daily engineering processes, quality, and effectiveness.
- Your weight, balance, inertia, and mass-distribution analyses are accurate, consistent, and useful to engineering decisions.
- You choose sound analytical methods, understand uncertainty, and explain the reasoning behind your conclusions.
- You reconcile models with measured data and investigate differences rather than accepting results at face value.
- You manage engineering and configuration details carefully so reporting reflects the correct aircraft configuration.
- You work independently on challenging problems while partnering effectively across engineering disciplines.
- You stay current in your specialty and identify improvements that strengthen product quality and engineering effectiveness.
- Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
- At least 5 years of experience in a Mass Properties Engineering role.
- Experience with weight estimation, center-of-gravity calculations, moments of inertia, mass distribution, weight tracking, and configuration-based reporting.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- With a bachelor’s degree, the source requirement calls for 5 years in a specific technical discipline or 10 years of broad engineering experience across several technical disciplines. Related advanced-degree credit may be considered up to 2 years for a master’s degree and 4 years for a PhD in a field applicable to the role.
- Detailed knowledge of aircraft structures, systems functionality, and design, ideally with commercial or business aircraft experience.
- Engineering estimation, uncertainty assessment, trade studies, and sensitivity analysis.
- Ability to reconcile analytical models with measured data.
- Experience extracting and validating mass properties from 3D computer-aided design (CAD) models and interpreting…
