Job title:
Customs & Duty Compliance Assistant Manager
Compensation: $100,000 - $115,000
12-hour time note: 13 hours ago; 6 days ago (contextual posting times not required for the role)
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary District-level resource for Trade Compliance.
- Proactively communicate and coordinate with RTCM, branch management, and the Director of Trade Compliance (DTC).
- Maintain knowledge of current and proposed laws, regulations, directives, rules, and policies applicable to Trade Compliance in the District and industry.
- Maintain knowledge of Expeditors’ operating systems (e.g., GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS) and how they support Trade Compliance goals.
- Communicate regularly with RTCM, branch management and DTC to ensure consistent messaging, changes, and implementation of Trade Compliance goals.
- Manage the Trade Compliance program in the District, including training, monitoring, assessment, escalation, and guidance to employees on Trade Compliance in the District and/or branches.
- Create a Tone of Compliance Messaging in Branches.
- Promote a positive, solutions-oriented environment in each branch or location within the District.
- Be an outward example of Trade Compliance as a valuable, integral part of quality customer service and Expeditors’ business success.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships within the District by supporting branch and District Trade Compliance.
- Foster uniform compliance by implementing best practices in Trade Compliance, as directed by RTCM.
- Lead by example, be consistent, and communicate with the RTCM and DTC as required.
- Assess and Train:
Serve as an instructor for at least 50% of annual training credits. - Administer and execute the Company Trade Compliance program according to its objectives, policies and procedures.
- In coordination with the RTCM and DTC, the DTCM will:
- visit branches within the District to deliver training and develop aptitude in Trade Compliance; demonstrate how quality, compliance and customer service are intertwined;
- train branch personnel on escalation procedures;
- periodically assess branch personnel on Trade Compliance issues; and
- inform the RTCM of any training deficiencies identified in training, file reviews or assessments.
- Monitor and Report on Branch Workflow
- Assess preventive and noncompliance detection measures in the District/branches and report to the RTCM regularly.
- Monitor, assess, and implement corrective actions as instructed.
- Run daily, weekly, and monthly import/export compliance reports and report anomalies according to escalation procedures.
- In coordination with the RTCM and DTC, the DTCM will:
- implement preventive controls and detection monitoring in accordance with Company policy and applicable laws and directives; and
- assess preventive and noncompliance detection measures in the District/branches.
- Understand performance of all departments in the District related to Trade Compliance activities.
- Follow Company escalation procedures to resolve any non-compliance identified through reports, monitoring, disclosures, government visits, etc.
- Provide regular updates to DM, RTCM, and Product Managers on branch performance, red flags, legislative changes, and related issues.
- Assist with implementing remediation plans for corrective action to resolve non-compliance with applicable Trade laws and directives as instructed by RTCM or DTC.
- Stay current on Trade Compliance laws and communicate changes to DTC and RTCM.
- Be a resource for all employees in the District to support branch Trade Compliance.
- A passion for Trade Compliance and doing the right thing.
- Proficiency in English and one local language spoken in the District.
- A minimum of three (3) years at the Company.
- Understanding of applicable Trade Compliance laws and regulations.
