Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services will plan, implement and supervise clinical pharmacy services and activities in the Department of Pharmacy. The manager will develop, implement, and evaluate programs for clinical services, ensuring continuity of programs offered along with maintaining accountability for medication management, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) mandated by the FDA and manufacturers and pharmacy learning programs (such as resident and student oversight).

The manager will oversee Clinical Pharmacy Specialists at both St. Joseph’s and Candler Hospitals and work with the manager at each site to provide comprehensive pharmacy services to patients of SJCHS. The manager will monitor clinical productivity and financial metrics to ensure proper utilization of staff and resources. The manager will help develop, implement, and maintain the drug formulary, pharmacy policies, and hospital policies and procedures pertaining to medications and clinical services both in acute care as well as infusion and oncology.

The manager will provide, coordinate, and evaluate staff development and competency opportunities for practicing pharmacists and evaluate the clinical skills of pharmacists, providing performance review input to the Director of Pharmacy. Will participate on intra- and interdepartmental committees as assigned. Other responsibilities will be assigned as deemed necessary by the Director of Pharmacy.

Education
  • Doctorate, Pharmacy - Required
  • Completion of PGY1 pharmacy residency - Required
  • Masters degree (MS Pharmacy Administration, MBA, MHA or similar) - Preferred
Experience
  • 3 - 5 Years Clinical practice post residency/fellowship - Required
License & Certification
  • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
  • National Certification - Required
  • Board Certification - Preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
  • Develop, define, implement and assess pharmacotherapy and individualize therapy to specific patient needs and communicate therapeutic recommendations to the Medical Staff. Establish clinical pharmacy programs to address patient needs, provider support and multidisciplinary education of the use of medications in the health system through leading and coordinating the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality management program activities. Participate in and provide direction to the organization's MUE program. Assure department compliance with The Joint Commission and REMS programs. Design and implement quality improvement projects related to medication management and value based quality programs as assigned.
  • Develop and implement clinical pharmacy training programs for staff pharmacists, Residents and Nursing as needed. Coordinate supervision and instruction of Pharm

    D students. Lead and coordinate pharmacy residency and pharmacy student training programs. Ensure compliance with ASHP Standards related to residency training.
  • Attend and participate in Pharmacy Leadership meetings. May be delegated department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director and/or other managers and leaders. Assist staff when workload or schedule demands.
  • Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to medication safety based on CQI principles adopted by the SJC and recognized by The Joint Commission.
  • Maintain organization under the scope of clinical practitioners. Integrate and advance student and resident professional development and patient care skills. Develop and participate in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Provides leadership in fostering non-punitive culture for medication error reporting and analysis. Coordinates the standardization of medication safety process improvement plans for the organization. Assists in the analysis of data collected and the development of action plans to improve medication safety.
