Responsibilities
  • Offer medical dosimetry services such as treatment planning, dosimetry calculations, simulation, and treatment setup expertise to the Radiation Oncology Department. Carries on selected physics duties under the supervision of the Medical Physicist and provide clinical staff education in medical dosimetry and required radiation therapy procedures.
Education
  • Bachelors of Science - Required
Experience
  • 3-5 Years Medical Dosimetry - Preferred
License & Certification
  • Professional Certification - Required
  • National Certification - Required
  • An individual shall be considered eligible to practice if he/she is Certified or Eligible for Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board. If eligible, the CMD exam must be taken during the first available test date after date of hire. If a second attempt is required, the exam must be taken at the next available exam date. The Certification must be furnished to the Human Resources Department at least by the second attempt.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
  • Computes isodose distributions to demonstrate total composite of initial and boost/reduced treatments. Review and interpret the treatment prescription and appropriate data correctly.
  • Performs time out procedures with physicians when reviewing dosimetry plans. Develops dose distributions which are achievable on treatment units. Optimize target dose and limit dose to critical organs within tolerance parameters.
  • Assists, directs or aids in the simulation process or fabrication of immobilization devices. Reports erratic operation of equipment to physicist and/or vendor support. Educates therapy and nursing staff of dosimetry procedures by participating and attending clinical staff meetings.
  • Accurately provides documentation to support charges billed. Retain updated coding parameters in radiation therapy. Performs chart audits when designated.
  • Participates in planning and accrual for clinical trials. Prepares the display of contours for weekly peer review meetings. Participates in monthly dosimetry/physics meetings.
