Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant

This position involves active participation in managing supply inventories, surgical equipment, operating room readiness, and providing direct clinical and technical assistance to surgeons during operative procedures. Candidates should have an expanded knowledge of surgical instrumentation, techniques, human anatomy, and wound closure, with strong hand/eye dexterity and sequential planning skills. The role may serve as a first assistant or surgical scrub technologist, under supervision of perioperative registered nurses or physicians.

All activities must meet departmental standards for quality and quantity of work. Performs additional duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma - Preferred
• Graduate of a Surgical Technician Program - Required
• Maintains national certification within subspecialty area

• 2-3 Years operating room scrub experience, including laparoscopic, open, and robotic GYN procedures - Required

• National Certification - Required
• Graduate of an ORT course and certification from the program - Required

• Check light sources, instruments, and equipment for proper functioning
• Assist attending physicians during procedures
• Clean and prepare rooms between procedures
• Build relationships with surgeons and network with scrub technicians
• Ensure correct supplies and instruments are prepared and used
• Participate in unit or system committees and serve as a resource and preceptor for new staff
• Maintain certification and promote departmental compliance
