Position: Cold Case Investigator - (Part-Time)

Job Responsibilities:
  • Investigate felony crimes
  • Conduct follow-up interviews and interrogations of witnesses, victims, and suspects
  • Arrest offenders that are in violation of the law
  • Write affidavits for search warrants and execute search warrants
  • Complete and execute arrest warrants
  • Identify, mark, collect, and preserve physical evidence
  • Analyze investigative information and develop plan of action
  • Conduct surveillance and undercover operations as directed
  • Prepare reports and case files on investigations and arrests
  • Establish working relationships with other law enforcement agencies
  • Manage informants
  • Provide on-the-job training for inexperienced investigators
  • Assist the District Attorney's Office in case preparation
  • Appear in court and give testimony when necessary
  • Establish a professional and working relationship with the courts, professional centers, and victims
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Answer the telephone and take messages
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Minimum Requirements:

    Five (5) years Law Enforcement experience with at least two (2) years of investigations experience;
    Savannah Police experience preferred. Must possess Georgia P.O.S.T. certification. Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge in report writing to prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports
  • Knowledge of law enforcement methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of research techniques, statistical analysis, and data collection
  • Knowledge of electronic information systems to access data and prepare reports
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Skilled in computerized software programs and computer keyboard devices
  • Skilled in analyzing information and drawing valid conclusions
  • Skilled in verbal communications
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work within stringent deadlines
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex written materials
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information
  • Supervisory Controls:

    The Sergeant - Patrol assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

    Guidelines:

    Guidelines include the department policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

    Complexity:

    The work consists of related law enforcement duties. The need to respond to potentially life-threatening situations contributes to the complexity of the position.

    Scope and Effect:

    The purpose of this position is to perform technical and specialized law enforcement duties. Successful performance helps ensure the protection of life and property within the city.

    Personal Contacts:

    Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, the general public, and law enforcement personnel from state, local and federal agencies.

    Purpose of Contacts:

    Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, interrogate others, and provide services.

    Physical Demands:

    The work is typically performed while sitting, standing or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

    Work Environment:

    The work is typically performed outdoors and in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to life-threatening situations. The work requires the use of protective devices.
