Overview

The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club's VISTA project, “Expanding Community Outreach for Youth Gang Prevention,” is designed to build our fundraising capacity, youth outreach capacity, and volunteer management capacity. Our Club employs a research-driven program for preventing youth gang joining called Gang Prevention Through Targeted Outreach (GPTTO). The program includes outreach to the hardest-to-reach children and youth at risk of joining a gang, ages 8 to 18.

The main goal is to serve as many at-risk children and youth as possible to reduce youth gang joining in coastal GA.

Member duties and program details are described below.

• Grants Coordinator – use oral and written communication and technology skills to locate grants, write grant proposals and grant reports, and maintain a schedule that increases our capacity for grants funding and meeting goals for new grant awards over the service year.
• Community Outreach & Volunteer Management Coordinator – visit community organizations to generate interest in referring at-risk youth to the Club, maintain and develop relationships, and track the number of youths referred.
• Participate in volunteer recruitment and become familiar with the current program, observe where processes can be improved in recruitment, training and management, and make recommendations to the VISTA Supervisor.
