Clinical Nurse Educator – Overview
The Clinical Nurse Educator role will be utilized to improve the overall quality of care within the Medical/Surgical unit. This job helps prepare the nursing staff through education, certification, and the incorporation of research for the future. The educator focuses on clinical education, improving performance measures, engaging staff, and ensuring annual competencies are completed to meet the unit needs and improve overall patient care.
Responsibilities- Assess educational opportunities and coordinate resources to meet patient care goals.
- Educate staff and share expectations, knowledge gained in finance budgets, flexible staffing, and productivity management models.
- Partner with managers to share best practices, identify trends/opportunities for improvement, and foster creative strategies for effective productivity management.
- Provide rationale and implementation guidelines for nurse-sensitive indicators and other clinical quality outcomes.
- Deliver clinical experiences that develop the nursing process, critical thinking, knowledge, and skills.
- Ensure clinical competency upon completion of residency.
- Demonstrate ability to manage change and empower others to influence clinical practice and political processes within and across systems.
- Assist the manager by providing constructive feedback on staff to assist with annual and probationary reviews.
- Promote collaborative relationships with co-workers and physicians through introductions and follow up.
- Provide education and support in the utilization of resources and standards of care for the patient population.
- Contribute to formulation of nursing care plans for patients in consultation with the RN and in collaboration with patient, families, and healthcare members.
- Prioritize nursing care needs of clients.
- Assist in the review and revision of nursing care plans with the RN to meet changing patient needs.
- Provide structured, tiered competency-based clinical experiences for new graduates.
- Provide consistent feedback and progress reports to the new graduate, and follow up with the nurse manager.
- Facilitate staff development and personal growth through peer review, observation, education, and role modeling.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Required
- Master of Science in Nursing – Preferred
- National Certification – Required
- Professional License with State of Practice – Required
- 3-5 Years of nursing experience – Required
- 5-7 Years of nursing experience – Preferred
- More than 5 years of nursing work experience in Med/Surg preferred, minimum of 3 years required in Med/Surg.
