Corrections Officer – Chatham County, GA Government
New higher starting pay! Join the Chatham County Detention Center and earn a starting salary of $45,837 as a Deputy Corrections Officer. Your earning potential increases with additional pay for Law Enforcement, Corrections, or Military experience. After completing the Academy and earning your P.O.S.T. certification, you will be promoted to Deputy Corrections Officer Advance with a salary of $53,677.
Responsibilities- Perform law enforcement and public safety work.
- Responsible for the safety and security of inmates in custody.
- Book, process, search, and seize personal property of arrestees and new inmates.
- Issue uniforms, escort, secure, provide meals to inmates and maintain shift logs.
- Respond to assistance calls from other officers and defend yourself.
- Respond to any location within the jail by running.
- Learn first aid and CPR to rescue an unconscious/injured person.
- Work 12‑hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Supervise inmates directly and have direct contact with them.
- Position may involve high stress and verbal/physical confrontations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school.
- At least 20 years old.
- Correctable vision of 20/20 or 20/40 in each eye.
- Pass a physical exam, drug screen, and background investigation.
- Complete Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification for Jail Officer and a Basic Law Enforcement Officer.
- 7‑year Driving History (report at your own expense).
- All Police and Incident Arrest Reports.
- Birth Certificate with Seal.
- College Transcripts.
- DD‑214 Member Long Form.
- Final Court Disposition for all Criminal Charges.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification with Certificate Number.
- HS Diploma/GED Certificate, Private School Accreditation, if necessary.
- Legal Documentation for all Name Change.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Marriage License.
- Military Discharge Documentation.
- Naturalization Papers.
- Notarized Statement detailing any Arrests.
- Out‑of‑State Law Enforcement Certificate.
- Out‑of‑State Letter of Good Standing.
- Social Security Card.
Upon selection, you will be required to sign a conditional written agreement for this position, which requires salary reimbursement for voluntary separation within two (2) years of completing the P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.
This is a safety‑sensitive position and subject to random drug testing.
