Community Service Officer (Security Guard)
Savannah State University seeks a Community Service Officer (Security Guard) to assist law enforcement in protecting campus lives and property through vigilant surveillance and patrols. Duties include opening and securing campus facilities, performing dispatcher duties as needed, and monitoring campus properties with motorized and foot patrols.
Pay Range$17.00/hr.
Responsibilities- Perform routine public safety duties.
- Patrol assigned areas to ensure personnel safety and building security.
- Warn violators of rule infractions and assist with traffic & parking violations.
- Provide high-profile uniformed public safety services for campus events and the University community.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Clery Act.
- Enforce University rules and regulations.
- Act as a knowledgeable resource to students, staff, and visitors on campus.
- Perform active and regular patrols (foot or vehicle) of all campus areas.
- May be required to perform job-related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully complete one week of basic patrolling procedure training, including qualifying with the expandable baton and/or Taser qualification.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license in good standing.
- Must be able to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, and search and seizure laws.
- Knowledge of Savannah State University policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic investigation techniques.
- Skilled in operating security vehicles and emergency equipment.
- Skilled in using computers for word processing.
- Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
