The team:
Scotiabank’s Global Technology Enterprise Platforms (GTEP) Operations - Infrastructure Support’s Unix Infrastructure team is responsible for providing infrastructure support on servers running Red Hat Linux & Solaris operating systems for various mission-critical business applications.
- Provide systems-level support for over 3,000 mission-critical application production and non-production servers. Responsibilities include technical troubleshooting, providing solutions to complex issues, capacity planning, and making recommendations.
- Participate in semi-annual Disaster Recovery (DR) fail-over testing as outlined in the bank's policies and procedures to ensure DR functionality.
- There is occasional overtime for after-hours or weekend work. Rotational 24x7 on-call support is required.
- Thrive on multi-tasking and prioritizing work to meet deadlines in a large complex environment.
- Engage in 2nd level UNIX support on production issues, participating in Incident Management, Problem Management, and Change Management; address security vulnerabilities as part of audit and compliance requirements.
- Work on Solaris, Linux operating systems on Oracle Sparc and x86 hardware, and virtual hosts including LDOMs, VMware, and Cloud.
- Work with Veritas Clustering/Storage Foundation, Red Hat clustering, Solaris ZFS, and EMC/Hitachi SAN storage products.
- Monitor the environment to identify risks and take corrective actions.
- Develop automation using Ansible for implementing changes, patching, fixing security vulnerabilities, and writing scripts for system monitoring.
- Participate in project management activities across requirements rollout including assessment, planning, initiation, implementation, and management.
- Assist in identifying, developing, and maintaining policies and procedures relevant to the Unix infrastructure operations.
- Display detail orientation, proactivity, eagerness to learn, and the ability to thrive on challenges.
- Mentor and coach junior team members to grow the team through individuals.
- Excellent communication (verbal/written) skills.
- At least 10+ years of hands-on technical experience with Solaris (versions 10/11) and Red Hat Linux (versions 7/8) operating systems.
- At least 10+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting Oracle Sparc and x86 hardware products, including knowing when to engage the vendor.
- At least 10+ years of hands-on experience with Veritas/Symantec Storage Foundation (VSF) & Veritas/Symantec Cluster Services administration and troubleshooting.
- At least 10+ years of hands-on experience with NIS/IDM, NFS, Solaris Zones & Solaris Logical Domains (LDOMs).
- Strong knowledge of SAN/NAS storage file systems and virtualization platforms/technologies.
- Strong scripting capabilities (e.g., shell, perl) and experience with Ansible automation.
- Good problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure with time constraints and prioritize competing priorities.
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
