Child Care Site Supervisor/Summer Assistant Coordinator

Pay: $21.00 Per Hour

The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services Department is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to work in our After School Care Program for the 2026 school year. The position is located at Wentworth School and involves the direct supervision of children on site, organizing and planning activities, cleaning, and collaborating with a team of coworkers. The ideal candidate must be able to connect with children in K‑2nd and 3rd‑5th grade groups.

Required hours are between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for the aftercare program.
This role is part‑time during the school year and transitions to full‑time (40 hours per week) during the summer program (June–August). School vacations, snow days, early dismissals, late starts, and scheduled no‑school days are also required. Flexibility and commitment are essential.

Duties include caring for children in a school facility setting; observing and monitoring children’s activities; ensuring constant safety and security; organizing and participating in age‑appropriate activities; delegating tasks to staff; completing written documentation such as incident reports and time cards promptly; maintaining close communication with the Child Care Manager and Program Coordinators; and participating in all required meetings and trainings.

Position Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have prior experience working with children.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to stay constantly alert, anticipate and prevent problems, and manage disruptive children positively while providing fair, firm discipline.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with children, parents, the Manager, Coordinators, and other child‑care counselors.
  • Must be able to work a set schedule and be dependable and reliable.
