Functional

Purpose:

Deliver and collect mail along a prescribed rural route using a vehicle; provide customers on the route with a variety of services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route.

Receive and sign for accountable mail.

Load mail into vehicle.

Deliver mail to customers along a prescribed route and on a regular schedule by vehicle; collect monies and receipts for accountable mail; pick up mail from customers' roadside boxes.

Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; furnish routine information concerning postal matters and provide requested forms to customers.

Return mail collected, undeliverable mail, and submit monies and receipts to post office.

Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain records of change‑of‑address information.

Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a list of the customers on the route.

Conduct special surveys when required.

Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route.

Provide for mail security at all times.

Qualifications

Desirable candidates may be required to have a suitable vehicle for use and live within easy commuting distance of the facility location. The job is physically demanding and performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Carriers may be required to load and unload trays and containers of mail and parcels weighing as much as 70 pounds. Work is available usually on Saturdays, then on an as‑needed basis to cover the absence of the carrier.

Scarborough, ME. Salary: $45,000.00–$65,000.00.
