We have 2 Consultant Anaesthetist posts available, 1 Scarborough-based and 1 York Based.
Within the Trust, we are part of Surgery
Care Group
, which includes most surgical specialities. We have a Clinical Director responsible for the Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care Directorate (TACC) across the Trust, supported by Lead Clinicians for Intensive Care, Pain, Anaesthetics and Theatres.
Surgical services are located principally at two acute hospitals, York and Scarborough. At Scarborough Hospital surgical services are supported by a brand new Urgent Care Centre including both HDU and ITU capacity. The main theatre suite comprises five theatres, in addition to which there is a separate maternity theatre. Elective surgical services at Scarborough currently include: general surgery (including emergencies), trauma, gynaecology, ENT, maxillo-facial, oral surgery, ophthalmology and urology.
We now also have a successful and expanding day unit to support this.
It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a consultant in anaesthesia based at either York or Scarborough Hospital. There is a requirement to provide cross-site working in line with current patterns within the department to support robust and sustainable provision of the workforce in anaesthesia. Currently, all of the Consultant provides cross-site work including on-call.
The posts are initially contracted for 10 programmed activities per week.
The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with consultant colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated.
Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the clinical director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All job plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles.

Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the Lead Clinician and Clinical Director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All job plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles. Job plans will be reviewed annually in line with appraisals. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultants typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities.
It will cover all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities, and external commitments.
- Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
- Hold a license to practise with the General Medical Council
- Entry on the relevant GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) Or CESR
- Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
- Ability to teach clinical skills
