North Yorkshire Police currently hold vacancies for Police Staff Investigators within the Coast Investigation Hub. The role of Police Staff Investigator (PSI) is both challenging and rewarding. We have projected future vacancies and will maintain a holding list for 12 months.

About the role

As a Police Staff Investigator you will gather and review evidence, undertake crime investigation duties, and ensure that all evidence is recorded, secured, preserved, and reviewed promptly to safeguard the vulnerable and bring offenders to justice, supporting the Force's policing mission and organisational priorities.

You will need excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate difficult messages with tact, sensitivity, and authority, as well as strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.

The role involves investigating and reviewing material relating to various volume crime types. Previous investigative experience and an understanding of criminal investigation processes, court procedures, and forensic science support is desirable, though training is available.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct interviews with witnesses and suspects
  • Utilise NICHE and other Police information sources as applicable
  • Carry out investigative tasks utilising a variety of information sources
  • Preparation of prosecution case files, manage exhibits and disclosure, and support CPS requests
  • Ensure evidence is recorded, secured, and preserved promptly and appropriately
  • Comply with data protection regulations
  • Present evidence in court
Hours & Travel

You will be expected to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, including early and late shifts (11‑12 hour shifts on a rota): 07:00 – 18:00, 12:00 – 00:00 or 13:00 – 00:00, with weekend working. Due to the nature and demand of the role, you may be required to work beyond your normal hours and travel/work across the Force, and sometimes in other Force areas.

Permanent, full time.

Hours:

37 per week – shifts 4 on 4 off.

Scarborough. Salary: £27,202 – £35,772 (Scale 4‑6) – Career progression plan.
