An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration to work within the Blood Science department at Scarborough Hospital within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections. This is a full time vacancy 37.5 hours per week and the successful candidate will be expected to participate on the 24/7 shift rota when suitably trained and competency achieved. The department is fully equipped with the Sysmex XN series for Haematology, Sysmex CN for Coagulation, Grifols Eflexis analysers and Haemonetics Blood Tracking in Blood Transfusion.
The laboratory is UKAS accredited and has recently gone live with Winpath Enterprise LIMS. It will be a contractual requirement for the successful candidate to participate in the 24/7 shift system.
- To carry out the analysis of patient samples, quality controls (QC) and external quality assessment samples (EQA) according to departmental SOPs and departmental Quality Assurance Policy.
- To ensure that specialist equipment within the area of work is functioning efficiently through good housekeeping, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Technical validation of patient results.
- Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users on information of a technical nature.
- To undertake shift work including evening, weekend and night work. This will involve working mostly alone and includes the provisional authorisation of results that are used for immediate patient management, carrying potentially serious consequences if any errors occur in the process.
