Job Overview
We are seeking an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or Anaesthetic Nurse to join our teams in Scarborough and Bridlington. Our facilities run eight theatres across two sites, covering a wide range of specialties including general surgery, urology, gynaecology, ENT, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, obstetrics, elective orthopaedics and trauma.
Both sites host established day‑surgery wards and excellent elective orthopaedic wards, achieving some of the best same‑day discharge rates for joint replacements in the country. Scarborough offers a 24‑hour emergency theatre and is part of cardiac arrest, trauma and paediatric emergency teams, ensuring varied and dynamic daily work.
Responsibilities- Support anaesthetic needs during peri‑operative care using acquired anaesthetic skills.
- Assist emergency response teams with airway management of deteriorating patients.
- Maintain a high standard of patient‑focused care in line with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
- Communicate with patients and carers to provide appropriate information.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships among all staff involved in patient care.
- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and HCPC standard of proficiency for Operating Department Practitioners.
- Undertake duties on different wards or departments as required by service demands.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
- ODP Practitioner or Registered Nurse with an anaesthetic qualification.
- Minimum of three years experience in the peri‑operative setting.
- Evidence of training in airway management or related emergency response roles.
- Access to the NHS Pension Scheme, including a lump sum and pension for dependants.
