Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated critical care practitioner to serve as a shift leader, ensuring safe and effective management of the Critical Care area.
As an independent practitioner, you must be capable of providing highly skilled nursing care to a wide range of critically ill patients and providing support, guidance, and clinical support to junior staff on duty.
As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, in conjunction with the Band 7 Sister, you will manage a team of nursing staff, identify education and professional development requirements, and manage performance and sickness within defined parameters.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a high standard of patient-focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
- Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
- Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
- 1st level registration – a degree in a health-related topic (or studying towards) is advantageous.
- Teaching certificate (or studying towards).
- Critical Care qualification or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of Critical Care nursing, along with experience contributing to change in nursing practice.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills, effective team working, and evidence of clinical and managerial leadership skills.
Participate as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in the overall management of the department by taking responsibility for specific projects within defined boundaries.
Assist in promoting a positive working and learning environment, supporting the personal and professional development of staff.
