Deputy Ward ManagerWe have an exciting opportunity to join our Acute admissions unit (Lilac Ward) as a deputy ward manager.
Lilac is a 32 bedded busy admission unit which cares for acute medical patients before they are transferred onto specialty areas.
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, organised and pro‑active nurse who can balance direct patient care with leadership responsibilities, ensuring safe, effective and person‑centred care across the acute ward.
Main duties of the job- Deliver a high standard of patient‑focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust policies, procedures, and values.
- Act as a positive role model, supporting the development of clinical knowledge, skills, and professional practice within the ward team.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Support the Sister/Charge Nurse in setting, monitoring, and continuously improving standards of care, including those outlined within the National Benchmarks for Essential Care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, ensuring accurate and contemporaneous clinical records are maintained.
- Assist with the day‑to‑day management of clinical services and support the effective deployment of staff to meet patient and service needs.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to infection prevention and control, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and best practice at all times.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care that delivers the best possible outcomes for patients.

- Registered Nurse (Level 1)
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
- Leadership and management qualification
- Quality and improvement qualification
- At least 2 years at Band 5 or equivalent
- Experience with clinical audit and standard setting
- Working with a wide range of professionals
- At least 6 months working in a clinical area
