Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We have an excellent opportunity to join our expanding Young People’s Supported Accommodation Service, as a High Needs Supported Accommodation Worker.

About the Service

Next Steps provides 24/7 staffed High Need Supported Accommodation, Dispersed Accommodation with floating support, Supported Lodgings and Safe Stay emergency accommodation (16/17-year-olds) and Safe Stay Emergency Lodgings (18–25-year-olds).

The High Needs Support Workers are based in the 24/7 staffed properties but offer floating support in the dispersed properties and outreach support to some of the supported lodgings placements as required.

About the Role

This is your chance to be part of something fresh, dynamic, and deeply impactful — supporting young people around the ages of 16 and 17 (and at times up to 25) who are living in Supported Accommodation.

These young people come from a range of backgrounds and life experiences including being in care or a care leaver, Child in Need, Unaccompanied Asylum-seeking Children or those who experience homelessness. Some may also have experienced developmental trauma/adverse childhood experiences or have other complex and challenging behavioural or emotional needs, but all need caring, nurturing support as they transition to adulthood.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day caring support to young people in both 24/7 staffed and dispersed accommodation settings.
  • Be a key worker, building strong, trusting relationships and helping young people develop the skills they need for independent living.
  • Support young people across our Core Offer areas: health and wellbeing, education and employment, staying safe, life skills, and more.
  • Work flexibly including a share of evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays and sleep-in duty as part of a rota to ensure 24/7 support.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of professionals and services to deliver truly integrated, person-centred support.

Qualifications

  • Empathetic, resilient, and committed to supporting young people.
  • A great communicator who can build positive relationships and advocate effectively.
  • Flexible and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willing to work across the county-wide service when needed (primarily designated to work in the East or West of the County).
  • Ideally experienced in working with young people in residential care, supported accommodation or supported housing environments.

Requirements

You’ll need to hold or be willing to work towards a Level 3 Diploma or higher related to caring/supporting children.

Additional Information

It is an exciting time in Children and Young People’s Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future.

We want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
