Position Summary

Experienced Engineer MSAT Bio DP Cilag AG, part of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, is hiring an Experienced Engineer, MSAT Bio DP Innovation (2‑year fixed‑term contract, 80‑100%) to be located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Schaffhausen Site/Cilag AG is a launch site for new products with focus on Parenteral Products (e.g. pre‑filled syringes and vials). The role supports the manufacturing science and technology (MSAT) organization for the MTO (Manufacturing and Technical Operations) biotherapeutics platform, overseeing filling, visual inspection, device assembly, and pack operations.

A new team focuses on deploying innovative digital tools and shop‑floor technologies. The engineer will lead cross‑functional project teams, act as the Site MSAT Subject Matter Expert (SME) for digital tools, evaluate, pilot, and deploy innovative technologies and digital solutions that improve shop‑floor execution and MSAT business processes. This includes dashboards, automated reporting, data‑driven workflows, and pilot studies for new software and tools to assess value, usability, and fit to GMP/MSAT processes.

The engineer will coordinate stakeholders across functions and represent the department in digital tool initiatives from evaluation through sustainment. A background in data science is beneficial for supporting statistical analyses during non‑conformance investigations and contributing to locally deployed advanced process control models.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as Site MSAT Subject Matter Expert for digital tools such as dashboards, automated reporting, and data‑driven workflows.
  • Run pilot studies for new software/tools and assess value, usability, and GMP fit.
  • Lead implementation projects of digital solutions and support validation with QA/CSV (documentation, testing).
  • Present project updates and strategies in different forums, including leadership meetings and steering committees.
  • Support data‑driven investigations by applying statistical analyses in non‑conformance investigations; potentially support troubleshooting and updates of locally deployed advanced process control models in collaboration with global SMEs.
  • Support internal and health‑authority inspections as SME (e.g. tool documentation, application, and training).
  • Build strong cross‑functional partnerships (Manufacturing, Quality, Automation/IT, Analytics, Engineering).
Qualifications
  • University degree in Engineering, Data Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Informatics or equivalent;
PhD or at least two years of pharmaceutical experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with digital tools (dashboards/automated reporting), software pilots, and data‑driven methods (statistics and/or advanced process control).
  • Experience translating business needs into digital requirements (e.g. user stories), working with relevant manufacturing data sources (e.g. MES/LIMS/process historian systems), and building or managing BI/reporting solutions (e.g. Power BI, Python, Tableau). Experience with platforms such as Databricks and Posit is a plus in a regulated environment.
  • Proven project leadership experience in a GMP‑regulated life sciences environment, with the ability to drive cross‑functional delivery from requirements through implementation and sustainment.
  • Independent work style with strong ownership, structure, and initiative, and collaboration to meet project timelines.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills, excellent communication skills to represent MSAT in cross‑functional and cross‑site teams within the global matrix organization.
  • Open to new ideas and a driver of innovation.
