The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g. cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership.

The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional high level duties that are specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Responsibilities
  • Sales Generation and Guest Service:
    Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and provide legendary service; answer questions regarding store and merchandise; recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs; anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience; demonstrate product knowledge and share that knowledge with Team; maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions; stay consistent on personal sales and support Teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG);

    achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals; provide legendary service across Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area; know exchange and return procedures and turn them into showmanship opportunities; use SPG daily; meet or exceed Buckle business builders and guest loyalty metrics; expand Guest selection through inventory tools; build client relationships; lead by example with showmanship and high customer service standards;

    communicate Guest levels to the Team; coach and motivate Teammates; conduct leadership actions consistently; plan sales goals with Store Manager; take ownership of store’s sales performance.
  • Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development:
    Recognize recruiting opportunities, coach and create relationships through Guest Loyalty; develop skills and lead, direct, motivate and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards; maintain a positive floor culture; demonstrate personal dress code; participate in daily setup, training, and Performance Tracker; motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks; demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card coaching; execute department actions and track weekly delegation;

    demonstrate leadership actions during segments; train Teammates and keep them engaged; build a talent pipeline and assist in recruitment of store staffing needs; understand pay and Buckle Benefits; maintain up-to-date contact lists; execute Leadership playbook; ensure non-sales positions are trained and coached; follow changing sales focuses with assertiveness.
  • Visual Merchandise Management:
    Own zones and projects daily with learning goals; execute new tools and videos related to zone ownership; delegate and review all four zones; ensure adherence to Visual Standards and Weekly Visual Checklist; identify merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations; provide informative store tours; keep sales floor sized and freight displayed; drive improvements via the Performance Tracker; anticipate product changes and react to improve visual results;

    maintain visual standards on floor and backroom.
