Position SummaryThis position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Wellness Coach interacts with new and existing members to help them achieve their health and well‑being goals, creating a welcoming environment for all backgrounds and abilities.
Essential Functions- Coach members to support their desired behavior change and regularly check on their progress in meeting personal and program goals.
- Answer questions from members to support them in achieving goals related to healthy living, maintaining a working knowledge of wellness trends.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with members and help connect them with the YMCA community, including group exercise programs.
- Utilize tools and information to increase member knowledge of wellness and YMCA programs.
- Conduct post‑enrollment interviews to understand new members’ well‑being definition, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, abilities and interests; develop individualized plans.
- Refrain from writing diets, prescribing supplements, or diagnosing/curing injuries; refer members to a doctor when health is questioned.
- Stay current with trends in exercise and wellness.
- Maintain and clean equipment according to schedule or as requested.
- Assist in organizing gifts for the annual campaign.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond to emergency situations.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum age 16.
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, First Aid, and New Employee Orientation.
- Training to complete within 30 days of hire:
Foundations of Strength & Conditioning. - Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Passion for learning and working with youth/families and sports.
- Desire and ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
