The Role:
The Instrument Department is responsible for the design of Process Control and Instrumentation Systems, Integrated Control & Safety Systems, Fire & Gas Systems and Telecom Systems. This includes actuated On/Off valves, Control Valves, Pressure Relief Valves and non-reclosing pressure relief devices such as Rupture Discs.
You will be responsible for the specification, engineering, testing, and lifecycle management of critical valve packages, including control valves, actuated on/off valves, pressure relief valves, and rupture discs.
Working across FEED, Basic Engineering, and Detailed Design phases, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and clients to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective valve solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Specify and select valves in accordance with project requirements, client specifications, and industry standards.
Prepare and review valve datasheets, material selections, pressure-temperature ratings, and technical specifications.
Perform valve-related engineering calculations, including flow, pressure drop, and material compatibility assessments.
Ensure compliance with API, ASME, ISO, IEC, and functional safety requirements, including SIL applications.
Support HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and valve performance evaluations.
Review vendor documentation, technical proposals, drawings, and test reports.
Support procurement activities, including vendor qualification and technical bid evaluations.
Participate in and witness FATs, SATs, hydrostatic tests, and other valve qualification activities.
Troubleshoot valve reliability issues and provide recommendations for maintenance, refurbishment, and performance improvements.
Contribute to engineering standards and mentor junior engineers across global locations.
Essential Qualifications
Must be experienced in valves not just Instrumentation.
BSc degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Minimum 8 years' experience in Valve Engineering within the upstream Oil & Gas industry.
Strong knowledge of API 6A, API 6D, API 520/526, ASME BPVC, NORSOK M-710, ISO 23936, and related standards.
Experience with pressure relief devices, control valves, and actuated valve packages.
Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511 and functional safety principles.
Experience with valve sizing and control valve calculations (CONVAL preferred).
Competent user of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications
FPSO project experience.
Functional Safety Engineer training/certification.
Experience with AVEVA Engineering.
Brownfield and operational support experience.
