Overview
The Canteen Lead is responsible for managing daily operations of the Cafe (staff lounge) and camper snack bar, maintaining accurate records of camper visits, keeping a clean work environment, conducting weekly inventories, submitting timely reorder requests, handling camper T-shirt distribution, participating in devotionals, and supporting summer staff programming.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage daily operations of the Canteen and Monterey Cafe
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of both areas, ensuring supplies are properly stored and handled
- Prepare Canteen before scheduled activities (electives, free time, etc.)
- Open and operate the Monterey Cafe during staff nights; plan and lead special staff activities
- Receive and distribute camper T-shirts by cabin; maintain inventory and notify Assistant Camp Director of reorder needs
- Submit weekly snack and supply orders to the Food Service Manager by Saturday noon
- Maintain weekly inventory of snacks and supplies for both the Canteen and Cafe
- Enforce safety standards and develop conduct rules for assigned areas
- Assist with electives and other camp programs as assigned
- Participate in evening programs, campfires, and lead camp songs as directed
- Support cabin leaders with late-night missions and assist with opening/closing day procedures
- Help plan and participate in staff devotions, meetings, and special events
- Support Salvation Army badge and enrichment classes as assigned
- Maintain cleanliness in living quarters and report maintenance issues
- Build relationships with campers and staff, modeling Christ‑like behavior and service
- Actively contribute to the spiritual formation of campers and staff
- Immediately report any suspected child abuse to the Assistant Camp Director and follow proper procedures
- Other related duties as required
- Minimum 18 years of age (required)
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required)
- Camping experience either as a camper or staff (preferred)
- General experience working with children
- Ability to maintain organized inventories and clean work spaces
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Must be of good moral character
- Must have a personal and growing relationship with the Lord
- Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push and pull objects and tools
