OVERVIEW
The Target Sports Lead is responsible for planning and implementing a safe, engaging program that introduces campers to target sports such as archery, slingshot, and pellet gun activities. The Target Sports Lead selects appropriate equipment, maintains a clean and safe range, and creates an interactive space that promotes creativity, learning, and exploration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Plan and lead engaging target sports programs (archery, slingshot, pellet gun) aligned with camp goals
- Prepare and maintain clean, safe target sports areas; remove hazards and report needed repairs
- Select appropriate equipment for campers and ensure proper handling and storage
- Maintain safety standards, develop conduct rules, and perform daily equipment checks
- Track camper progress and support skill development from beginner to advanced levels
- Supervise free‑time activity areas and assist with electives and adventure time
- Participate in evening programs, campfires, and help lead songs as directed
- Collaborate with staff to teach games and songs; support camper discipline when needed
- Conduct end‑of‑season inventory and submit equipment needs for the following summer
- Assist with opening/closing day procedures and late‑night supervision as assigned
- Support Salvation Army badge and enrichment classes as scheduled
- Maintain cleanliness in living quarters and report maintenance issues
- Build relationships with campers and staff, modeling Christ‑like behavior and service
- Actively contribute to the spiritual formation of campers and staff
- Immediately report any suspected child abuse to the Assistant Camp Director and follow proper procedures
- Other related duties as required
All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. You are expected to join in all evening programs; absences are excused only through the Assistant Camp Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- Minimum 18 years of age (required)
- Basic certification from N.A.A. or equivalent (required)
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required)
- Camping experience either as a camper or staff (preferred)
- Lifeguard certification (preferred)
- Must have interest, knowledge, and skills in archery, pellet guns, and slingshots
- Ability to teach youth ages 8-18; enforce safety guidelines
- Lead hikes and be in good health
- Must be of good moral character
- Must have a personal and growing relationship with the Lord
- Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push and pull objects and tools
