Overview
Youth Specialist – Short Hour at Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska (CAPWN). 3‑hour days Friday and Saturday 3 PM–11 PM. 16‑hour weekly opportunity to supervise, mentor, and support youth in a therapeutic residential setting.
DescriptionCAPWN is a nonprofit community‑based health and human services organization serving low‑income, disadvantaged individuals in western Nebraska. CAPWN offers community health services, clinical health services, and supportive health services, including youth programs such as the Youth Shelter, Youth Leadership Program, and Teen Outreach Program.
Responsibilities- Create and maintain a safe, supportive therapeutic environment using trauma‑informed best practices.
- Supervise youth in a residential facility; provide skill‑building, recreational activities, and educational development.
- Document all significant events, behavior logs, medication logs, and daily logs in a thorough and HIPAA‑compliant manner.
- Facilitate youth completion of daily program activities in accordance with program and facility rules.
- Serve as a mentor and teach safe, respectful boundaries.
- Maintain confidentiality of records and communications following CAPWN policy and HIPAA privacy and security policies.
- Communicate with staff through logs, briefings, and meetings to provide consistent, professional care.
- Assist managers in program planning, implementation, and feedback.
- Provide youth with integrated information on agency and community resources and assist youth in making positive community connections.
- Practice appropriate interventions and logical/natural consequences using trauma‑informed care.
- Partner with pan‑state educational and counseling services to provide seamless continuum of care for runaway, homeless, and system‑involved youth.
- Maintain CPR certification and provide transportation as required.
- High school education or equivalent for Grade 121; two‑year degree in human services and at least one year experience for Grade 131; three‑year degree in human services and at least two years experience for Grade 141.
- 21 years of age; valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to flexible schedule, ability to work primarily evenings, weekends, and on‑call as needed.
- Pass criminal history background check, child abuse/adult abuse, and sexual abuse register background checks.
- Ability to attend meetings and training sessions in or out of the area.
