Under the supervision of the principal and athletic director, the assistant coach helps to coordinate and administrate the sport within the guidelines of the National Federation of High Schools, Arizona Interscholastic Association, Diocese of Phoenix, school, athletic department, and specific sport. The coach contributes to fostering the Catholic School culture by serving as a witness to students and the community, bearing witness to Christ, his Church and the teachings of our Catholic faith, cooperating with Christ in the academic, spiritual and social education of our high school students.
The coach obtains necessary certificates, participates in continual professional development, maintains detailed and accurate records, and serves as a mentor and campus minister to all students. This position requires effective communication via phone and email; accurate completion of duties with high quality and timeliness; flexibility and forward thinking; ability to seek latest coaching practices; and planning creatively.
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and training necessary to achieve individual and team success while promoting the Pursuing Victory with Honor Program, maintaining discipline, handling grievances, and increasing morale and cooperation.
- Assist in the overall functioning of the sports program.
- Assist the Head Coach in ensuring that the venue is safe and all equipment is compliant, safe, properly maintained and inventoried.
- Assist in coordinating supervision of student-athletes in all areas of play, locker rooms, and other venues.
- Maintain open communication with faculty, staff and parents, advise student-athletes regarding academics and assist in the college recruiting and scholarship application process.
- Perform other job-related tasks as needed.

- Demonstrate appropriate sense of humor.
- Understand good teaching techniques and child psychology.
- Maintain appropriate grooming and dress as per faculty handbook.

The job requires standing, sitting, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching, talking, hearing, regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, visual acuity for close and distance vision, ability to stand outside in heat and cold, moderate noise. EVALUATIONPerformance evaluated according to procedures developed by the Diocese of Phoenix and Notre Dame Preparatory under direction of Principal and Athletic Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTStipend position based on season. Base salaries and stipends established by Leadership Team under Diocese of Phoenix. Schedule of mandatory days and responsibilities provided prior to new school year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION- Preference given to Catholic teacher.
- Certified by Arizona State Department of Education or AIA as a coach and meet NCA requirements.
- Meet Diocese of Phoenix employment requirements.
- Completed Safe Environment Training and signed Code of Conduct.
- FBI fingerprint clearance completed.
- Current Arizona State driver’s license desirable.
