Full-Time Substitute Teacher at Xavier College Preparatory
Purpose and ScopeUnder the supervision of the Principal and the Assistant Principals, the substitute teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education. The role assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the grades or classes assigned; maintains detailed and accurate records; establishes positive school‑community relationships; continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications;
and performs any other job‑related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.
- Embrace and model the Catholic philosophy of education.
- Promote and live gospel values and Catholic moral teaching, and uphold doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Articulate and demonstrate Catholic living by example.
- Participate in faith development activities provided by the school.
- Prepare the classroom for class activities.
- Set daily and unit objectives as given by the classroom teacher.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules in accordance with the school's policies.
- Apply appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with school policies.
- Follow procedures and communications as outlined in the daily substitute instruction manual.
- Maintain cooperative relations with the school community and promote respectful, positive school relationships.
- Acknowledge role as a Catholic teacher and minister of faith, and its impact on the community.
- Cooperate and support various curricular and co‑curricular programs.
- Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings and in‑services.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required by the administration.
- Attend diocesan-sponsored in‑services.
- Participate in school faculty meetings and in‑services; contribute to continuous school improvement.
- Maintain personal professional development records.
- Demonstrate personal self-discipline and be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations.
- Use good judgment in daily encounters and use verbal and written language correctly.
- Show an appropriate sense of humor.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
- Maintain appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook.
- Preference given to a practicing Catholic; faithful persons of other faiths are welcome.
- Willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic; if non‑Catholic, willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
- Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent to procure an AZ Substitute Certificate.
- Be certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a substitute teacher and meet applicable NCA requirements.
- Receive Safe Environment Training and sign the Code of Conduct; AZ Fingerprint clearance completed.

Job Requirements- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
