About the Role:
This position is for a Water Attorney with at least four years of experience in water law, particularly focused on Arizona’s regulatory framework. The role involves advising clients on complex water rights, groundwater, and surface water issues, as well as handling cases of regional and statewide significance. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, sound legal judgment, and a passion for environmental and natural resources law.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on water rights, groundwater management, surface water allocation, and related regulatory matters.
  • Represent clients in administrative hearings, negotiations, and litigation concerning water law issues.
  • Draft, review, and interpret legal documents, contracts, and agreements related to water use and rights.
  • Advise clients on compliance with Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) regulations and other state and federal water policies.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, and reports on complex water law issues.
  • Collaborate with environmental consultants, engineers, and governmental agencies on water resource projects.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting Arizona water law and provide strategic guidance.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of four years of experience practicing water law in Arizona.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona.
  • Strong understanding of Arizona water rights, groundwater management, and adjudication processes.
  • Proven experience handling administrative proceedings and complex legal disputes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem‑solving abilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with environmental, natural resources, or land use law.
  • Familiarity with federal water statutes such as the Clean Water Act or Reclamation Reform Act.
  • Background in policy development or legislative affairs related to water management.
  • Ability to manage multiple high‑impact cases simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable water use and resource management.
