Registered Nurse Operating Room (Full Time)

Under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse and Clinical Director, this position provides nursing care to ensure the safety of the patient during their transfer and stay in the surgical suite/procedure room.

• Direct and assist in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures
• Supervise and direct the activities of surgical technicians and non-professional personnel as necessary
• Perform assessments of patients for specific nursing care needs
• Check room for needed supplies and prepare room for specific patient and procedure
• Assist in transporting patients to operating room/procedure room and check patient record for appropriate pre-op preparation and procedures (e.g., lab, x‑ray, appropriate permits)
• Perform cleanup following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties
• Set up operating room/procedure room with all necessary equipment and supplies
• Participate in ongoing committees and other educational programs to enhance patient care
• Review physicians’ preference cards and update as needed
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts and document as applicable
• Maintain sterile field throughout the surgical procedure
• Use general familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room
• Communicate effectively and promote departmental relationships to ensure continuity of care
• Act efficiently as a member of the surgical/procedural team
• Handle instruments correctly and check for cleanliness and proper working condition

• Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing
• Active RN license in the state
• BLS, ACLS, or PALS as required by the center
• Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Circulator
• Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment
