Senior Facilities Services Technician – Grounds – Coronado HS
Affiliated with Scottsdale Unified School District.
Pay Grade: L
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Incumbents perform high school athletic grounds maintenance. The position is a non-supervisory role distinguished from the Groundskeeper position by the experience, depth of high school athletics knowledge, ability to work independently without close supervision, and required certification.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform high school athletic groundskeeping duties such as policing athletic fields/facilities, cleaning and maintaining surrounding areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Handle trash pick-up, raking, shrub and tree pruning, planting, trimming, fertilizing, and general upkeep of the athletic fields and facilities.
- Check irrigation systems for proper watering schedules; install, maintain, and repair irrigation lines, heads, and controllers; troubleshoot electrical problems; perform minor repairs; and assist in inspecting contractor projects.
- Prepare baseball, softball, football, soccer, and track & field facilities; maintain all sports surfaces and running areas to achieve optimum playing conditions.
- Use a variety of hand tools, operate an EZ-GO cart, and drive district vehicles.
- Work as a team player, communicating effectively with coaches, the athletic director, and maintenance staff; maintain a detailed written log of activities and time spent.
- Work independently with little or no immediate supervision and make sound decisions using judgment.
- Calibrate seed and fertilizers to uniformly plant seed or fertilize turf; calibrate and apply liquid fertilizer and herbicides correctly.
- Plant and prune trees and shrubs using proper methods according to Arizona Landscape Professional Standards.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to one (1) year experience at the Maintenance Worker I level or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensing Requirements- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
F). If required, certification must be in place within the first six months of hire. Additionally, applicants must possess or obtain within one year of hire one or more of the following certifications:
Certified Landscape Auditor, Professional Ground Certification, Arizona Certified Professional District Cal‑Sense Controller/Water Management Training, or completion of Extension Turf Grass Certification from the University.Knowledge

Bermuda and Rye grass management. - Calibrate spreaders for application of liquid and granular fertilizer, herbicides, and seasonal grass seed.
- Plant and prune trees and shrubs according to Arizona Landscape Professional standards.
- Follow department policies and procedures; safety procedures and practices; traffic control methods.
- Learn, understand, and operate the district’s Cal‑Sense Irrigation System; perform sprinkler maintenance; repair lines and heads.
- Operate all related landscape maintenance equipment including chain saws and equipment weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Operate a personal computer to check e‑mail.
- Safely operate EZ‑Go cart and drive district vehicles.
- Lift, empty, and carry trash bags or cans weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Operate telephone and radio communications equipment properly.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, supervisors, other departments, and school staff.
- Demonstrate willingness to assume ownership in completing assigned tasks.
