Position Summary

Butterfly Wonderland’s Retail Manager oversees all aspects of retail operations, including the gift shop and online store. The role ensures an exceptional guest experience through outstanding customer service, effective merchandising, and strong team leadership. The Retail Manager spends approximately 80% of their time on the sales floor and 20% on administrative tasks. Weekend and holiday availability is required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, train and develop a team of 4-5 retail staff.
  • Create and manage staff schedules to ensure coverage and efficacy.
  • Hold monthly team meetings to review updates in policy, promotional activities and team performance.
  • Foster a positive, customer‑focused culture aligned with Butterfly Wonderland’s Mission and Vision statement.
Sales & Guest Experience
  • Engage on the sales floor to drive sales and deliver exceptional guest service.
  • Handle quest inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Empower staff to meet and exceed daily sales goals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, specifically with leadership, suppliers, guests, and staff.
Operations & Inventory Management
  • Oversee daily store operations, including merchandising, receiving, tagging and store cleanliness.
  • Manage inventory levels, process cycle counts, and assist with overall inventory management.
  • Create purchase orders for restock items and collaborate with the Executive Director on product selection.
  • Ensure that all staff follow appropriate cash handling policies and that cash deposits are made timely with a high level of accuracy.
  • Be able to learn and be a leading user of the REVEL system regarding sales and inventory levels.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty which includes handling onsite escalations, the generation of incident reports, responding to guests and team members general inquiries, and general building closure activities.
Collaboration & Reporting
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to review KPIs, inventory reports and store performance.
  • Be proactive in requesting and/or creating sale signage that is representative of the overall look of the store.
  • Attend leadership meetings and national retail trade shows as needed.
  • Partner with maintenance to address store fixtures such as lighting, drywall and other maintenance that requires the use of tools.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with the ability to work, must be controlled by medications or protective equipment.
  • Experience in a minimum of 3 years of retail sales, merchandising and/or retail buying.
  • Ability to operate a computer and keyboard, familiar with inventory control reports.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to push/pull up to fifty pounds.
Physical and Medical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or crawl.
  • Required to frequently talk and hear.
  • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance, and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work.
  • Must be able to take directional cues directly or indirectly.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may be loud at times.
