Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain backend services for voice/video calling, including signaling servers, call routing logic, and media gateways, using SIP and WebRTC.
- Implement and tune digital signal processing algorithms for superior call audio, including noise suppression, echo cancellation, jitter buffer optimization, and voice activity detection.
- Optimize media streaming and codec configurations (Opus, G.711, H.264, etc.) to balance quality and bandwidth in real‑time communication.
- Embed speech‑to‑text (ASR) and text‑to‑speech (TTS) capabilities, enabling AI voice agents to participate in calls and manage conversation flows.
- Design services with a cloud‑native approach (microservices, containers) for deployment on Kubernetes, ensuring high availability and five‑9s uptime across global data centers.
- Continuously profile, tune, and improve end‑to‑end system performance to minimize call setup times and audio latency.
- Use CI/CD pipelines to deploy updates safely with zero downtime, write comprehensive automated tests, and participate in on‑call rotation to resolve production issues.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, front‑end teams, AI/ML teams, and network engineers.
- 5+ years of experience developing VoIP or real‑time communication systems; strong knowledge of SIP, WebRTC, RTP, and NAT traversal.
- Hands‑on experience with real‑time audio processing, noise reduction, echo cancellation, jitter buffers, and voice QoS techniques.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for high‑performance, multi‑threaded systems programming; experience with Go or Java for microservices.
- Experience building and deploying services in a cloud‑native environment (Docker, Kubernetes) on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Exposure to integrating speech recognition and text‑to‑speech in applications, familiarity with voice assistants or IVR systems.
- Understanding of securing voice communications (TLS, SRTP) and safeguarding customer data (GDPR, HIPAA considerations).
- Comfortable with CI/CD, infrastructure‑as‑code, logging, monitoring, and incident response.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and documentation skills in Agile teams.
